frank and wil:
i have located several old friends from the 50's by enterring their name on PEOPLEFINDER.COM in their 50's state of residence. i have found that 30-50% of people stay in the same state. i also use white pages of WWW.EXCITE.COM
if you have their usaf serial number , you can determine their resident state before USAF. some people just don't care about SAMPSON or their USAF experience. about half are dead now.

you might have to make afew phone calls...

Frank Stewart;
I have been on this site for the last 5 or 6 years and still have not seen any one from my Flt. # 243 post anything. Still hoping there is still some one left out there. Made lots of friends from different flights on this site.

Hi Gentlemen and Ladies,,, I have posted a note once before trying to find anyone who remembers me. My Flight was 3456, and was at SAFB till just before they closed her. Was on the base Basketball and Baseball teams....Later went down to Andrews AFB and played on thier Base BB and Baseball teams also.
I can't believe no one from my flight ever comes on this site. I later became a Professional Wrestler by the name of Dutch Savage,,, check out our site "dutchsavage.com"... If any of you remember , would love to hear from you. I don't think any of our filght has passed on,,,in any even have a great week,,, Blessings pastor Frank Stewart

Your right about the mosquitoes Ralph but, I don’t remember the black flies although I’m sure they were there. I hated when we had 24 hours of daylight, OK very close to 24 hours, in my barracks it seemed that all the guys figured that as long as it was day light it was OK to stay awake and party. Believe me when I say tempers were short! I was pulling CQ on the night/day when then sun didn’t set the first time, it just barely touched the top of the mountain off in the distance then rose again. We had one record someone left behind, a Jazz record, one of the recordings was “Take Five”, it became my favorite.

Well troops you are right Alaska is cold. But the summer, both days, are fantastic. That is if you can fight off the mosquitos and black flies they are killers. The mosquitos are so big one was refueled with 150 gallons of av gas before they discovered what it was. When the temp went up to zero we thought we were in a heat wave.

bob:
i can't imagine working on an aircraft in weather like that.
in jan-feb of 1953 we went to burlington, vt to participate in "OPERATION COLDSPOT"... we were troop carrier (c-119's) and purpose was to get experience conducting missions in cold weather . we were warned to not even think about handling a wrench w/o gloves. think it got down near zero one day..nothing like your situation.
we had funin montreal!!!

I think I can top the coldest spot to be in. We departed Anchorage in a C124 and flew to Point Barrel Alaska. When we landed there , we were told not to shut down our engines,to off load thru the open clam shells. It was 65 below zero, with a a wind chill factoe of 120 degrees. We were dressed like Eskimos with no bare skin showing, otherwise we would have frozen in seconds. Those are brave souls that stay there. BRRRRR
