I bought my first car at age 15, a 1940 Dodge or was it a Plymouth, can’t remember, it was a 4 door pukey green color. Bought it off a used car lot on Arlington St Akron Ohio for I think $300.00. Let’s see, that would have been 1951, time sure flies when your having fun. At the time I didn’t even know how to drive my 14 year old friend had to drive it home for me then he proceeded to teach me how to drive. You all know how young people drove back then, you rev the engine up till you get about 4000 RPM then slide your foot off the clutch, sure went through a lot of tires.

first car was after discharged in 1955, a '53 Kaiser. it was a great car way ahead of it's time. i totalled it in an accident in '57. no casualty insurance so bought a '51 studebaker for $100..it was the ugliest car ever made. used a quart of oil every 1/2 tank of gas.

Was taught to drive in Korea in a cherry picker hauling napalm
bombs. And took driving test in a 6x. Got military driving license.in Korea. At the time in Ill.you didn't have to take driving test if you had a G.I. license. When I got stationed in Mich.got a Mich. license by showing the one from Ill.When I got home to Philadelphia showed my Ill. license and got a Pa one without ever taking a driving test. So the only driving test I ever took was the one in Korea.

Yes. I remember my first car. A 1949 Ford that I bought in 1955. I was being transferred from Ellsworth AFB to Westover AFB. My wife and I were planning on getting married in June but my transfer was in May so we decided to get married a month early. We packed up just about everything we owned in the back seat of our 49 Ford and headed East from Rochester, Minnesota. Kept that car until 1957 (and still have my wife for now almost 55 years).

Read in the Hartford Courant an obit for a John Monaccio who passed away. The obit says he went through basic in 1950 and was stationed At Sampson Base Hospital. Maybe Gus knew him.

To lighten things up a little-- I watched movie 'Vertigo'
and looked at the cars in the background, I saw Kaiser
Hudson, Pontiac, Plymouth, DeSoto, Rambler, Packard, none of which exist today. Things have changed since we were youngsters.
Question: what was your first ca?. Mine was a 1951 Plymouth, that I bought when I got back from Korea; paid $350 for it [it was in excellent shape] drove it until I sold it I Akron in 1961.
