Southern Maine

On July 8, 2010 Phil Pender, SAFBVA New England Squadrons Coordinator, held a Luncheon/Meeting with some Maine Sampson Vets and their companions at Governor's Restaurant in South Portland for the purpose of forming a new local squadron. The meeting began with a discussion of the SAFBVA rules regarding local squadrons and of their importance to the Association and that these local meetings are not intended to replace the SAFBVA September annual reunion held at the Holiday Inn in Waterloo, NY and at the Museum at Sampson State Park. Norm Morency, SAFBVA co-webmaster, ( gave a talk about the web site and its features and of the very popular FIS flight and airman search program and of the people involved in the functioning of it.

The Squadron was initially named the Down East Squadron [DES], but was later changed to The Southern Maine Squadron [SM] .

The members of the SM Squadron are veterans from the four southern counties in Maine, namely York, Cumberland, Oxford and Androscoggin.

Our meetings are held on the 2nd Thursdays, May through October at noontime.

All Veterans are invited to join Our Squadron.
